
Assessment for Adults with an Eating Disorder
Purpose of the Assessment
The goal of this session is to develop a clear picture of your current difficulties, medical
risks, and psychological needs.

It provides a foundation for collaborative treatment planning and may include:

Clarifying whether you meet diagnostic criteria for an eating disorder (e.g. anorexia nervosa atypical anorexia, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, ARFID)

Understanding the history and development of eating behaviours
-
Exploring co-occurring concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or perfectionism of physical health

Discussing the impact of the eating disorder on daily functioning, relationships
-
Identifying personal goals, motivations, and readiness for change

What to Expect
The assessment may include a combination of structured interview questions, informal
discussion, and psychological screening tools.
Areas covered include:

Eating patterns, body image, and exercise habits

Physical symptoms or changes (e.g. weight fluctuations, gastrointestinal issues, menstrual irregularities)

Mental health history and current emotional wellbeing

Personal and social context, including relationships, work/study, and support systems

Previous treatment experiences and outcomes
This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, raise concerns, and begin to
build a trusting therapeutic relationship.
Next Steps
After the assessment, Dr Linsey Atkins will:

Provide feedback and share clinical impressions

Recommend a treatment plan tailored to your needs and based on an evidence-based treatment approach. This may include MANTRA, CBT- E, SSCM, or a blended approach

Discuss the potential role of other professionals, such as dietitian, GP and psychiatrist

Offer guidance on any immediate steps, including medical review if indicated
The aim is to ensure you feel heard, supported, and informed about your options moving
forward.
